Things have been so crazy lately with Rob starting his new job, the fire, Emily's headaches and also with her being sick, that I feel like poor Ethan is being lost in the blogging shuffle. And later today I am going to be blogging all about Emily because we are heading to the hospital shortly to get the results we have been waiting a month for on her pituitary function test. This will give us the information we need to move forward with her surgery scheduling. So, right now I am dedicating a moment to talk about Ethan, my little star basketball player. :)
Ethan is absolutely LOVING basketball so much. And what I love about him is seeing his enthusiasm for the sport. He not only enjoys the thrill of making his own points in a game, but he is a true team player. He thoroughly basks in the glory of each and every shot that his teammates make, too. Watching Ethan play his first game was one of the best things I have ever seen. He was running up and down that court with a smile on his face the entire time. Of course these little kids don't know the rules of the game yet, and the way the help teach them is to give them colored wrist bands to wear. They know that they are supposed to guard the team member from the other team that is wearing the same color wrist band that they are wearing. During the first game, Ethan was just animated in his excitement. He even got to make a basket and earn points for his team. After each and ever shot that his team made, he would pull his arms down and jump and yell "YES!" It was so cute. Their team (The Foley Blue Devils) won the game. After the game I had a message on my cell phone from Ethan's coach. He told me that his wife told him that she had tears in her eyes watching Ethan on the court. She said that after he made his successful shot and looked at me with that huge look of pride on his face, that is when she really almost cried. This really is a game that Ethan just loves!
This past Saturday was their second game. Ethan was even more excited for this one because his cousin, Kaz, was in town and was going to be there to watch him play. Although he didn't make any baskets during this game, Ethan was definitely the star defensive player for his team this week. He really knew how to stay on his man. Nobody was getting by him! In fact, at one point, he had the whistle blown on him because he stole the ball. He didn't realize that he wasn't allowed to do that. (Ha-ha! That's my boy!) So, now he knows and he just played a great defensive game. After it was over, his coach even came over to him and told him that he was the only one on the team that played defense and he told him how proud he was of him. Again, Ethan was beaming with pride.
I'm so happy that we signed Ethan up for basketball and that it is something that he is actually enjoying. I'm loving every second of watching him, too!
