A sign of a sheltered life???

Do you want to know a sign of a sheltered life? It's when your nearly seven year old son is served watermelon for dinner (that he loves and eats all the time) and says..."What are these black things in my watermelon?"

Those black things that he is talking about are the seeds!!!!!!!

That is what happens when your child has sensory issues and a lack of tongue control. The last thing you would ever do is serve him watermelon with seeds in it. So, for his entire life, we have always purchased SEEDLESS WATERMELON. Goodness, it took forever for him to learn how to just get the food out of the side of his cheeks. I couldn't imagine trying to teach him how to spit watermelon seeds out of his mouth. He still can't even spit toothpaste out for goodness sake.

So when my mom invited us over for dinner tonight and served watermelon, none of us expected the reaction from Ethan that we got. He almost wouldn't even eat the watermelon because of the "black things" in it. We all had a good laugh and Ethan learned something new.

Now, how is this for irony, though. Ethan loves to eat fresh cherries. And yes, that means that he has to figure out a way to either eat around the seed or get the seed out of his mouth. He doesn't spit the seed out, but kind of reaches in and grabs it.

There is never a dull moment in the Ebbert household.
